The Charity Commission and ACCA sign a data sharing agreement

Following the launch of the CCEW external scrutiny benchmark in August 2019, the Commission has now signed a data sharing agreement with the ACCA which will allow the referral of concerns about accountancy services provided to charities.

When the benchmark was launched the Commission stated that where they found examples of poor compliance, they wished to report these to the relevant professional bodies and, this is the first formalisation of such an agreement.

The memorandum of understanding allows for sharing of information in both directions in a lawful, safe and secure manner with the aim of ultimately raising standards of charity accounting.

Both parties see this as a positive step in improving their working relationship and improving standards across the whole sector.

There will likely be more of these arrangements to come with other professional bodies!
